2023 Youth Council Legislative Action Days

The 2023 Youth Council Legislative Action Days program will take place in Tallahassee from April 4-5, 2023. The cost for this event is $25.00 per person. Students must be members of an established municipal youth council in order to participate in this program.

The deadline to register is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. For more information, please email erussell@flcities.com.

Youth council registration cancellation must be done in writing via email to erussell@flcities.com. All cancellations received in the FLC office by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, will receive refunds. Refunds will be issued after the event.

3. Type the number of additional coordinators attending in the box to the left and click the blue button to add their registration. Type in the list of names of the additional coordinators attending.  (Note: Do not include yourself in the additional coordinator section).
4. Type the number of students attending in the box to the left and click the blue button to add their registration. Type in the list of names of the youth council students attending. 
5. Click save response.

Program Agenda:

Day One: Youth council members will participate in a fun and engaging two-part workshop focused on youth engagement within their municipality.  The first part will include issue identification, message development and delivery, as well as role-playing and skill-building designed to improve participants’ skills in public message delivery. The second session will focus on the do’s and don’ts of advocacy with a tutorial on steps and protocols to effective advocacy in the public square.  Participants will close with several mock and practice sessions to enhance and practice the skills they learned during the workshop. Day One Coordinator Session: While Youth Council members are learning more about advocacy and how to bring about positive change, coordinators will have a special related session designed just for Youth Council Coordinators. This session will focus on key related topics including: Helping youth explore what works best in their community, identifying key messages that help keep efforts focused, the power of words and finding the right ones, relating and guiding Gen Zers and recognizing the impact of your leadership and influence. Day Two: In partnership with the UF/IFAS Extension, students will focus on the legislative process, which will include an overview of the legislative process and a mock legislative session. Facilitator: S. Derby Sale, Citizenship/Leadership Coordinator, UF/IFAS Extension, 4-H Youth Development
